These landscape paintings on Kleenex® tissues represent the cycle of decline and
impermanence that exists in all things – even the paintings themselves. They combine
transparent medium and ephemeral material to contrast the solidity of my weighty, three-
dimensional landscape relief paintings and present the landscape in a state of vulnerability.
The Memory Garden series of watercolor on Kleenex® tissues began in 2026 after the death of my mother. I began to think of flowers as representations of the many memories that sustain us throughout our lives that are generated from our lived experiences. They become the internal artifacts that we carry with us as colorful gardens of presence, disappearance and reemergence.
